1. General information
The subject allows the acquisition of knowledge about different pathologies and medical and surgical conditions in the respiratory, cardiovascular, haematological, digestive, renal, sense organs and especially pathologies that cause disability. Students will learn how to develop a plan of intervention to clinical cases and prepare Degree Final Project. It allows the application of the therapeutic process of occupational therapy.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations:
- Goal 3: Health and Wellness.
- Goal 4: Quality Education.
- Goal 5: Gender Equality.
2. Learning results
The student, in order to pass this subject, must demonstrate the following learning results:
- To have acquired the knowledge of general morbid processes and morbid processes of the following systems: Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Hematologic, Gastrointestinal and Renal of the Medical-Surgical pathology within the context of Occupational Therapy.
- To know how to assess the patient's needs by planning and developing individualized programs of intervention that are
more appropriate for the pathologies in each morbid situation, of the Cardiorespiratory, Endocrine, Renal and other.
- Analyse in each pathological process the application of appropriate treatments and therapies for occupational performance and for home, work and institutional settings.
- Interpret and understand all the information and relate the knowledge they has acquired to determine if the person is eligible for an adequate Occupational Therapy treatment.

4. Academic activities
Theoretical classes (60 h): 4h/week. Modules (2 and 4).
Theoretical-practical seminars on problem solving and case studies (16 h).
Practical classes in small groups (14 h)
Teaching assignments and other activities (30h). Activities related to practices and seminars and a group work.
Personal study and evaluation (105 h)
5. Assessment system
In order to pass the subject, students must demonstrate that they have achieved the expected learning results. The regularity in the participation and effective completion of all evaluable activities designed and scheduled in the subject will be valued:
Exams (80% of the final grade)
- There will be two midterm exams voluntary and eliminatory at the end of each Block of the program (including classroom content, seminars and practices).
- Final exams in official calls (June and July) of all the contents of the subject, for students who have not passed any of the midterm exams or have not taken them
The exam will be a multiple-choice test, with 30 questions of 5 options with no penalty for incorrect answers. The table of equivalence of will be published in Moodle.
Practices and Seminars (10% of the final grade)
- Attendance is mandatory (maximum 15% of absences duly justified).
- Attitudes and skills demonstrated during the development of practical activities, active participation.
- Individual or small group assignments, which may include oral presentations and individual written questions.
Unexcused absence from practices and seminars will allow the teacher to ask the students to do assignments such as clinical cases or papers on the conditions seen in those practices/seminars in order to pass them.
Practical exam if the evaluation activities of the practices/seminars are not passed or are not carried out during the term, date coinciding with the official call for exams.
Group work (10% of the final grade). Students must submit a group work (3-5 students) that will be publicly defended for 10-15'. The grade of the WORK is saved for one academic year.
In order to pass the subject, it is a prerequisite to pass each of the parts.
